Terms and conditions

Last updated 28 October 2026

General information

These Terms & Conditions apply to bookings made with Southdown’s Fly Fishing for individual fly fishing lessons, guided fishing experiences, group activity days, corporate events and related services.

Southdown’s Fly Fishing operates primarily from Duncton Mill Trout Fishery in West Sussex. It also operates from Brick Farm Trout Fishery in East Sussex, where it provides corporate events and larger group activity days. Southdown’s Fly Fishing CIC, the associated Community Interest Company, also delivers its activities from Brick Farm Trout Fishery.

Bookings are subject to availability, weather, fishery regulations and safety considerations. These terms apply when supplied or made available before a booking is confirmed. Nothing in these terms affects statutory rights.

Bookings and payments

Individual lessons: Full payment (100%) is required in advance at the time of booking. A booking is confirmed once payment has been received and confirmation issued.

Group activity days: Full payment (100%) is required in advance, including for schools, charities, community organisations and other group bookings, unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Corporate days: A 50% deposit is required upfront to secure the date. The remaining 50% is payable no later than 14 days before the event. For bookings made within 14 days of the event, full payment is required at booking.

Any additional agreed catering, staffing or other services may incur extra charges, which will be disclosed before they are incurred.

Safety and participant conduct

Participants must follow reasonable instructions from coaches and fishery staff, behave responsibly around water, use equipment appropriately and avoid conduct that puts others at risk.

Please tell us in advance about relevant accessibility, health or support needs that may affect safe participation, so appropriate arrangements can be discussed. Only necessary information will be requested.

We may stop an activity or remove a participant whose behaviour creates a serious safety risk. Any refund will be considered fairly in light of services provided and reasonable losses.

Equipment

Where stated in the booking, fishing equipment will be supplied. Participants should use it with reasonable care. Deliberate or negligent damage may lead to a reasonable repair or replacement charge; normal wear and tear is excluded. Personal equipment remains the owner’s responsibility.

Fishing outcomes and fish welfare

Fishing success varies with conditions and individual experience. No catch is guaranteed. All fish caught must be handled in accordance with the fishery’s rules and the coach’s instructions, including any applicable fish-retention limits and fish welfare requirements.

Rod fishing licences

All participants aged 13 and over must hold a valid Environment Agency rod fishing licence to fish in England. Licences are free for children aged 13 to 16, but must still be obtained before fishing. Participants aged 17 and over must purchase the appropriate licence. Licences are available from the official GOV.UK service at www.gov.uk/fishing-licences. Participants are responsible for ensuring they hold the correct licence before attending.

Fishery rules

Participants must comply with venue-specific rules covering permitted methods, flies and hooks, fishing areas, fish handling and catch limits. Rules can differ between Duncton Mill Trout Fishery and Brick Farm Trout Fishery and may change from time to time. Relevant requirements will be explained before or during the activity.

Corporate and group arrangements

The agreed itinerary, participant numbers, catering, staffing and any special arrangements will be confirmed in writing. Organisers should communicate dietary, accessibility and other relevant requirements in good time.

Changes to numbers or requirements may affect costs already committed. Any additional charge will be reasonable and communicated before agreement.

Children and young people

Under-18 participants require parent or guardian permission. Supervision, collection arrangements, emergency contacts and any necessary consents must be agreed in advance.

Activities involving young people or adults at risk will follow the applicable safeguarding procedures of the delivering organisation. Southdown’s Fly Fishing CIC may also have separate safeguarding and organisational policies.

Photography and video

Photographs or video may be used to support coaching feedback. Identifiable images will not be used for promotional purposes without appropriate permission. Additional consent procedures apply to children. Declining promotional photography does not affect participation.

Privacy and personal information

Contact, booking, emergency and any necessary health or accessibility information will be handled under applicable UK data protection law. Information will be used only for appropriate purposes and retained in accordance with the relevant privacy notice.

Liability

We will use reasonable care and skill in providing our services. Outdoor fishing involves risks including slippery banks, uneven ground, water, hooks and changing weather. Participants must follow safety instructions.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded. Nothing limits statutory consumer rights.

Complaints

Please raise any concern as soon as possible so that we can investigate and seek a fair resolution. Complaints can be sent using the contact details below.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated for future bookings. The version supplied at the time of booking will ordinarily apply unless a change is agreed or required by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, without removing any mandatory legal protections available to customers.

Cancellations and refunds

Last updated 28 October 2026

Customer cancellations, refunds and rescheduling

Individual lessons: Cancellation at least 14 days before the lesson is free, with a full refund or the option to reschedule. For cancellations with less than 14 days’ notice, a fair cancellation charge may apply based on reasonable net losses and costs incurred.

Group activity days: Cancellation at least 21 days before the event is free, with a full refund or the option to reschedule. For cancellations with less than 21 days’ notice, a fair cancellation charge may apply based on reasonable net losses and costs incurred.

Corporate days: Cancellation terms and any applicable charges will be specified in the written corporate booking confirmation before payment is taken. The 50% upfront payment is a booking deposit, not automatically a non-refundable charge. Any retained sum must be fair and lawful, taking account of reasonable losses, costs saved and any replacement booking.

Please submit cancellation or rescheduling requests in writing. Rescheduling inside the free-cancellation window is subject to availability and any reasonable additional costs disclosed in advance. A failure to attend may result in a charge up to the booking price where fair and lawful.

These contractual cancellation terms do not remove any mandatory consumer rights.

Cancellation or changes by Southdown’s Fly Fishing

We may postpone or cancel a session if it cannot safely or reasonably proceed, including because of dangerous weather, unsafe fishery conditions, unexpected fishery closure, coach illness or emergencies.

If we cancel and cannot provide the agreed service, customers may choose an alternative mutually agreed date or a refund for services not provided, subject to their legal rights. We will provide as much notice as reasonably possible.

Weather

Last updated 28 October 2026

Fly fishing normally continues in rain, cold weather and moderate wind. Severe wind, lightning, thunderstorms or other hazardous conditions may make an activity unsafe. Southdown’s Fly Fishing will make a reasonable safety assessment in consultation with the venue where appropriate. Participants should bring suitable outdoor clothing and footwear.

Gift vouchers

Last updated 28 October 2026
